Devos Outdoor LightRanger 800 LED Lantern Review

After meeting the Devos team at the MOORE Expo recently, I got a chance to check out their LightRanger 800, a telescoping LED lantern, and knew I had to get my hands on one. After getting to use the LED lantern on my camping trips and even just around the house, I have gotten the chance to test all of its intuitive features and with the portability to take it just about anywhere, this lantern has been a game changer.

Using the LightRanger 800

My favorite thing about the LightRanger 800 is the versatility and how easy it is to bring it with you. I personally use it working on projects around the house, working on my truck, and on camping trips. The telescoping pole gives you the ability to raise the lantern up to 8 feet tall so that it doesn’t get in the way and provides up to a 40 foot diameter space of lighting without being blinding or attracting bugs towards your face. This is perfect for using it in places like the garage, backyard, tent, campsite, and more. The pole also features a tripod base making it stand freely and securely so you can just set it down and forget about it.

I also really love using this lantern for photography to provide a nice warm white backlight so I can see subjects clearly in my photos. It’s also easy to take with me on photoshoots.

In situations like being inside of a tent or under the hood of my truck where the pole wouldn’t necessarily work, the lantern also features a hole on the top so you can hang it up.

Product Quality

I was honestly surprised with the quality of the LightRanger compared to other LED lanterns that just seem flimsy. It has a good weight to it and is made from an ABS plastic body and polycarbonate lens. It also has an aluminum heat-sink and overheat protection to protect the circuit and battery board. It is IPX6 waterproof (which means it can resist high-pressure, heavy sprays of water). The pole is made from lightweight aluminum that is powder-coated to resist rust and the elements. I even dropped it a few times (definitely not on purpose) while out exploring plenty of times and it still looks and works as if it’s brand new.

Accessories for the LightRanger

If the LightRanger isn’t functional enough yet for you, the Devos team has some awesome accessories to really make the the LED Lantern perfect for just about anyone and anything.

20 Watt Portable Solar Panel with LightRanger Receiver

If you’re like me, making sure to charge all of your electronics before a camping trip can be something that your forget about a lot. Luckily Devos has you covered with the 20 Watt Portable Solar Panel that is designed to fit on top of the LightRanger and keep it charged so you will always have light whenever you need it.

Heavy Duty Carrying Case

Keeping things organized is always something I look for when planning a camping trip, working on my vehicle, and in just about everything I do. The heavy duty carrying case allows you to store up to two LightRanger kits, two 20-watt solar panels, two AMPak 10 portable power banks, two colored filter kits,  charging cords and other gear.

AMPak 10 Portable Power Bank

If you need extra run time on your LightRanger, the AMPak 10 portable power bank doubles the run time and fits right on top of the LightRanger. It is also IPX6 waterproof just like the LightRanger so you can use it even in rainy conditions.

My final Thoughts

After some testing, I’ve gotten to test out the lantern during a camping trip but honestly, I’ve been mostly using it around the house or for just or working on my truck since it is super bright and stays out of your way. Plus the ability to remove it from the pole and hang it is super helpful if I need it to carry around or in tight areas like working on my suspension or under the hood.

For the price, it’s an excellent piece of equipment that is far more convenient and useful than just carrying around a flashlight and the lantern itself doesn’t take up much space so you can just throw it with all of your other gear and forget about it until you need it.
